About

A bank statement converter built by a CPA, for the people who do the books.

BankWriter is a desktop bank statement converter made by a practising accountant, because the tools available made more work at month-end rather than less.

Every practice has the same month-end: a stack of PDFs, a ledger waiting for them, and a converter somewhere in between. The converters all did the same thing. They read the PDF, handed back a spreadsheet, and left the checking to whoever opened it next.

That checking is not a small job. A balance carried forward can be read as a transaction. A description that wraps onto a second line can arrive as two rows or as none. Nothing about the output looks wrong, so it goes into the ledger, and the problem surfaces weeks later as a reconciliation that won't close by an amount nobody can place.

The statement already contains the answer. It prints a running balance next to the transactions, which means every row can be checked against the document it came from. That check is what BankWriter was built around: convert the statement, then prove the conversion against the statement itself, and flag the rows that don't agree before anyone imports anything.

The second decision was where the work happens. Client bank statements are among the most sensitive documents a practice handles, and the simplest way to keep them safe is to never move them. BankWriter runs on the machine in front of you. There is no upload, because there is nowhere to upload to.

Converting a statement was never the hard part. Trusting the result was.

What it's built around

Four decisions that don't change.

01

Reconciliation, not just extraction

Reading the numbers off a page is the easy half. Checking them against the balance the statement prints is the half that saves you a day at year-end, so it is the half the product is organised around.

02

Local by architecture, not by policy

A promise not to look at your files is only as good as the company making it. There is no server to send statements to, so the promise is structural. It holds whether we are a going concern or not.

03

One price, flat

Per-page pricing punishes the busy months, which are exactly the months you need the tool. One annual licence per machine, unlimited statements, and a bill that doesn't move.

04

Honest about scope

We don't list statement types we can't parse or claim coverage we don't have. If a statement won't convert, we would rather fix it or tell you we can't than sell you a licence you'll want refunded.

How support works

A CPA answers the email.

Support is not a queue and not a chatbot. It's the person who wrote the parser reading your message.

We never ask for the statement

If a conversion fails we ask for a single redacted page, enough to see the layout and nothing else. Never the full file.

A reply within one business day

Usually sooner. If a fix needs a new build, we say when to expect it.

Fixes reach everyone

A statement layout we learn to read for one practice ships to every licence in the next update.

Real product ยท real proof

What we can show you, and what we won't invent.

There are no testimonials on this site. When customers write them, they'll appear here with names on them. Until then, the app is the argument: download it and run your own statements.
