Everything the bank statement converter does.

BankWriter reads a bank statement PDF, checks every transaction against the balance the statement itself prints, lets you fix anything it flags, and writes the file your accounting software imports. All of it on your own computer.

How it works

One statement, start to finish.

The window below runs the whole job on a loop. Pick a step to jump to that moment.

Every capability

Four things the bank statement converter does, in the order you meet them.

Reading

Convert bank statement PDFs from any bank

There is no bank to choose and nothing to configure. Drop the statement in and BankWriter works out what it is looking at, whether it was downloaded from online banking or scanned from paper.

Works on any bank, with no templates, no setup

Canadian, US and UK banks and most others, for chequing, savings and credit card statements. No template to pick and no setup to keep up to date.

Scanned statements

A scan or a photograph goes through the same review table as a digital PDF, with the same balance check on every row.

Batches and multi-account files

Drop a whole folder and leave it running. A statement that carries more than one account is split into clean, separate exports.

Checking

Automatic bank statement reconciliation finds the bad row

This is the part other converters leave to you. BankWriter compares each transaction with the running balance the statement prints, so a row that doesn't add up is caught here rather than at month-end.

Every row checked

Each transaction is measured against the statement's own balance. Rows that add up are ticked; the rest are flagged.

Flagged with the amount

A flagged row tells you what it is off by, so you know whether it is a misread digit or a missing line before you look.

Check any line against the original bank statement PDF

Opening, debits, credits, closing and the difference, in one panel. When the difference reads zero, the file is ready.

Fixing

Edit every line before it reaches your books

Nothing reaches your ledger until you say so. The review table is editable, and the tidying most statements need can be applied to hundreds of rows at once.

Search and filter that speaks accountant

Change a description, correct an amount, delete a duplicate or add a row. The totals and the balance check follow every edit.

Messy bank codes, cleaned automatically

Write a rule once and run it across the file, so AMZN MKTP US*X9281 lands in the ledger as a name a client recognises.

Columns to suit the file

Choose the columns you export, flip the sign convention, and join descriptions that run over two lines.

Exporting

Export bank statements to CSV, Excel, QBO and OFX

All four formats are included from the first conversion. None of them is an upgrade, and there is no per-page or per-export charge.

CSV and Excel

For a spreadsheet, for Xero's import, or for any ledger that takes a column mapping.

CSVXLSX

QBO for QuickBooks

Import as a bank file in QuickBooks Online or Desktop, with no column mapping at the other end.

QBO

OFX for Sage, Wave and YNAB

The format most other ledgers accept, written from the same reviewed rows.

OFX

How it runs

A desktop app, not a website.

BankWriter installs on the machine and stays there. That is what keeps client statements off the internet, and it is why it still works when the internet does not.

Works with the internet off

Convert on a plane or in a client's boardroom. The licence activates without a connection.

No account to create

Type an email address, install, and drop a statement. No password, no profile.

Updates and new bank coverage included

A licence covers every update for the year, including statements we learn to read after you buy.

Speed

A 50-page statement in seconds, not minutes.

No upload wait. No server queue. No "processing your file..." spinner that ends in an error. No tokens to buy, no monthly page caps, no overage fees when year-end hits.

BankWriter runs on your machine, so the only bottleneck is your laptop, and even old laptops chew through year-end statements in seconds.
