What to do when a scanned statement will not convert
The free web tool does not accept scans. A scan that returns nothing has no text layer: the page is a picture of a statement, so there are no characters to read. Three things to try, in order.
The desktop app handles scanned and photographed statements, so a file that will not go through here is not a dead end.
- Look for the original PDF. Most banks keep statements in online banking for a year or more, and the issued file always converts better than a scan of a printout.
- Check whether the text is selectable. Open the file and try to select a transaction line. If nothing highlights, it is an image.
- Rescan at a higher setting if the paper copy is all you have, keeping the page straight and the whole width in frame.
